How SimGearPicker Works

We built SimGearPicker to solve a simple problem: finding the right sim racing gear shouldn't require a PhD in compatibility matrices and a daily habit of checking prices across a dozen retailers.

Price Tracking

Update frequency: Daily

We monitor prices from major retailers across five regions (US, UK, EU, Australia, Canada). This includes:

  • Amazon (regional)
  • Brand direct stores (Fanatec, MOZA, Asetek, etc.)
  • Specialty retailers (SimRacingPros, Digital Motorsports, etc.)
  • Regional distributors

When you see a price on SimGearPicker, it reflects current market pricing—not what something cost six months ago when a guide was written.

Compatibility Verification

What we check:

  • Platform compatibility: PC, PlayStation, Xbox—and the specific models/generations
  • Ecosystem requirements: What works with what within brand ecosystems
  • Mounting compatibility: Desk clamps, wheel stands, cockpit hard mounts
  • Torque limits: Can that wheel stand actually handle your direct drive base?
  • Physical fitment: Will it actually fit in your space?

How we verify:

  • Manufacturer specifications (primary source)
  • Hands-on testing (where we own the gear)
  • Community feedback and reports
  • Direct communication with manufacturers

If there's a known compatibility issue, we flag it. If something's unclear, we say so.

The Wizard Algorithm

The Wizard considers:

  1. Platform — What you're playing on
  2. Budget — Your realistic spending limit
  3. Experience level — Beginner, intermediate, or veteran
  4. Mounting situation — Desk, wheel stand, or cockpit
  5. Current pricing — What's actually available at your budget right now

It then recommends compatible combinations—not just individual products—ensuring everything works together. We optimize for value within your constraints, not for pushing the most expensive options.

Product Selection

What makes it into our database:

  • Products from established brands with track records
  • Items actually available for purchase (not vaporware)
  • Gear that meets minimum quality standards

What doesn't make it:

  • No-name AliExpress clones without safety verification
  • Products with widespread reliability issues
  • Discontinued items no longer available

Editorial Independence

Let's be direct about this: SimGearPicker uses affiliate links. When you buy through our links, we may earn a commission.

What this means:

  • We get paid when you buy stuff we recommend

What this doesn't mean:

  • Commission rates don't influence recommendations
  • We don't prioritize products with higher commissions
  • We don't exclude products without affiliate programs

We've recommended products that have no affiliate program at all because they were genuinely the best option. We've recommended against products with generous commissions because they weren't good value.

The long-term play here is trust. If we recommend garbage for short-term affiliate revenue, you won't come back. We'd rather build something useful.

Content Updates

How we stay current:

  • Price data updates daily
  • Guides reviewed when significant price changes occur (>10%)
  • Full category reviews quarterly
  • New products added as they launch
  • User-reported errors addressed promptly

Every guide shows when it was last updated and last verified. If something's stale, you'll know.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often are prices updated?

Prices are updated daily from major retailers across five regions (US, UK, EU, Australia, Canada). When you see a price on SimGearPicker, it reflects current market pricing.

Do affiliate commissions influence your recommendations?

No. Commission rates don't influence our picks. We've recommended products with no affiliate program because they were the best option, and we've recommended against products with generous commissions because they weren't good value.

How do you verify compatibility?

We verify through manufacturer specifications, hands-on testing where we own the gear, community feedback and reports, and direct communication with manufacturers. If there's a known compatibility issue, we flag it.

How does the Wizard algorithm work?

The Wizard considers your platform, budget, experience level, and mounting situation. It then recommends compatible combinations—not just individual products—ensuring everything works together. We optimize for value within your constraints, not for pushing expensive options.
